Archeological digs see the day in eastern Provence with the creation
of learned societies. The researchers belonging to these groups
are amateurs, but scientists such as Emile Rivière (1835-1922) and
Adrien Guébhard are quick to join them. They coordinate and encourage
the early works of Casimir Bottin (1842-1918) at Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey,
Marcellin Chiris (1857-1932) at Escragnolles, and especially Paul
Goby (1879-1937).
