When the digital comes to the International Perfume Museum...PERFUMIST

Thursday 28 June 2018

PERFUMIST, what exactly is it about?

Since its launch in May 2017 at the prestigious TFWA show in Cannes, PERFUMIST has quickly become the # 1 Perfume app on IOS and ANDROID smartphones, creating a huge international community of tens of thousands of users in only just

a few months. An automatic query system is built into the application and allows users to request the addition of the fragrance of their choice. All requests are processed within 24h as users are valued to being the strength of PERFUMIST.

So how does it actually work for users?

Simply start by selecting a perfume you like, by typing its name into the search bar and let PERFUMIST do the rest: each note is analysed and PERFUMIST comes up with a curated list of the perfumes you are most likely to favour already ranked and with

a matching percentage. Currently available for free to every user, PERFUMIST is a perfume advisor 2.0 that bases its results on more than 15,000 products.

Reopening new displays at the International Perfume Museum

Friday 29 June 2018

Created in the historic centre of Grasse in 1989, the International Museum of Perfumery has benefitted from an
ambitious project begun in 1998. It reopened its doors in October 2008 incorporating the Hotel de Pontevès townhouse
which was built just before the French Revolution. Ten years later, in the light of the comments of our visitors and
the feedback from our daily experience, we proposed a review of the route and museography in its entirety by focusing our
displays on areas organised chronologically around the great eras - Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, modern times,
19th century, 20th and 21st centuries which can be explored diachronically if so desired.
So that the museum will not close, the work will take place in two periods: 1st quarter of 2018, with the new rooms opening
this summer, and a second phase in 2019.

What’s New for 2018!

From the beginning of your visit, we plunge you into the substance of the subject with the creation of a new fun and
educational area at the entrance of the museum with the theme: «How do We Make Perfume Today? From the Plant to
the Finished Product».
Then, during your tour of the permanent exhibition, you will be able to explore the renovated rooms with exhibits from
Antiquity to the Middle Ages located on the 1st floor of the Hotel Pontevès. A completely redesigned museum which
sheds new light on the perfume industry during this period. New interactive museum devices contextualise the collections
on display and enable an expansion of the presentation to the five senses: videos, projections, interactive terminals, olfactory
and tactile points.
Note that the rooms offer people with visual impairments, a suitable route using specially designed materials.

Armand Scholtès "Gardener of Shapes"

Friday 25 May 2018

At the International Museum of Perfumery (MIP) in Grasse and at the Gardens of the International Museum of Perfumery

(JMIP) in Mouans-Sartoux.

For this summer, 2018, the International Museum of Perfumery and its Gardens will therefore launch a new invitation to

understand otherness. An invitation to allow our critical mind and imagination to restore to prominence the artistic visions

which continue to contribute to our worldview, with this contemporary artist, Armand Scholtès, a major French artist,

whose work extends over more than five decades.

Born in 1935 in Lorraine, Armand Scholtès has lived and worked in Nice since 1986. If Armand Scholtès is truly an artist of the 21st century,

his singular, accessible, concentrated  and minimal modernity combines primitive art, art naïf and arte povera.

As part of the 10th anniversary of the re-opening of the International Museum of Perfumery, the museum will therefore

be presenting a selection of graphical works on the theme of Landscape. Whilst the Gardens of the MIP will offer an original

installation “A Garden of Shapes” combining coloured planes of plants.
