Bitter orange
Citrus aurantium L. var. amara
Rutaceae family
Bitter orange is native to the Far East. Its fruit, bitter orange, was the only orange known to the Europeans for over 500 years. The perfumer used all parts of the tree: the foliage, fruit and flower etc. The main growing centres were the region of Vallauris and Bar sur Loup. Currently, it is mainly used in Morocco and Tunisia.
